Emily is a DONA-trained and a Matrona-certified full spectrum doula, and she is a passionate advocate for family-centered birth.

Through her training with Whapio Barlett and the Matrona, Emily gleaned deep teaching about the natural physiological processes of birth, and learned how best to support birthing people through the different brain wave states accessed during labor.

Emily is a voracious learner and birth nerd and brings a highly educational approach to her work with clients, doing her best to ensure that clients receive the most up-to-date information about their options in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, so that they can be in the driver’s seat of their motherhood journey. Emily is passionate about bringing partners/family members into the birth circle so that they feel confident in supporting birth when the time comes. She has worked in hospitals, birth centers, and home birth settings around Boulder County and tailors her education and care to each client’s birthing location and to their vision for their birth.

Emily is Reiki certified and infuses energy work into her prenatal visits as well as into labor and birth. She is also a longtime student of shamanic healing ways, herbal medicines, and food as medicine, and has studied with teachers in the Mayan midwifery tradition, as well as in Peru and Colombia.

She believes birth is sacred, and that this sacredness looks different for each specific client. To this end, she offers Blessingway (mother blessing) Ceremonies during pregnancy as well as womb closing ceremonies postpartum to create intentional spaces to honor the transition into motherhood.

Emily believes that the first 40 days after birth are some of the most important in a mother’s life and can set the stage for her future health. Emily loves supporting new mamas during this time through postpartum doula support. She offers bodywork, herbal and plant baths, peristeaming services, baby care, and nourishing in-home cooking as well as light housework to postpartum families. She completed her postpartum doula training with Geneva Montano of Sacred Birth, a Denver-based homebirth midwife.

Above all, Emily is committed to serving as a presence of reassurance and trust for birthing people and their families and supporting them in having a positive, empowered, and transformational birth experience. Emily is a Wilderness First Responder and former outdoor educator, and her work in the wilderness has been instrumental in understanding how to support birthing people as they journey outside their comfort zones in labor.

Outside of work, she can be found playing banjo, hiking, cooking, writing poems, and dreaming up creative community gatherings.
